The Daily 5 Check-in
When our friend, Ashley, was beginning her literacy block with the Daily 5 last week, she found that her students were so well conditioned to making meaningful choices for their literacy time, she omitted the “Check-in” phase by announcing that, “It is time for Daily 5, please move to your choices.” She found that her students were able to stay on task without the check-in, but will continue to watch their behaviors to see if she needs to bring back the check-in periodically, especially after school holidays or even long weekends. Ahh Haaa.
